A local recovery center group is expanding its services into Greene County to assist inmates battling drug addiction.
The Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center will provide medication management and counseling services to inmates at the Greene County jail in Waynesburg, to assist them with addiction as they prepare for their release.
The county received a two-year grant through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to fund Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and therapy services at the prison, which will pay for the program. MAT employs prescription medication to help treat substance use disorders.
According to Prison Deputy Warden Jerad Cline, “addressing addiction issues is critical to our mission of supporting inmate accountability and successful community integration. We’re committed to partnering with skilled service providers like the Gaiser Center to meet the needs of inmates and assist them in their return to living as productive citizens.”
Gaiser’s Medical Director Dr. Tom Brophy has started training prison staff to help inmates deal with the physical, mental and behavioral health issues related to addiction recovery.
The center uses a multidisciplinary approach to treatment encompassing physical, mental and behavioral health issues, along with social issues, and also treats inmates at Butler County Prison.
