A Smithton resident who has previously served on the school board for the Yough School District has entered the Democratic race for the 14th Congressional District.
Ken Bach, the owner of Bach Auto in Smithton, describes himself as “a proud Democrat with independent views.” In his campaign announcement, Bach said, “We need to work together and build our district for the future, not dream of going back to a nonexistent past.”
A 1985 graduate of Yough High School, Bach served for four years in the U.S. Navy, including in Beirut, Lebanon, following the bombing of the U.S. Embassy there. He and his wife, Joni, who is a respiratory therapist at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, have two grown children. He was a member of the board for the Yough School District for 14 years, with four of those years as board president.
Bach is also a board member of the Petroleum Retailers and Auto Repair Association, a trade group for auto repair and gas station owners.
In 2022, Bach was the Democratic candidate for the state’s 58th Legislative District, but was defeated by Republican incumbent Eric Davanzo. The winner of the Democratic nomination in the 14th Congressional District will face off against incumbent Republican Guy Reschenthaler in the Nov. 5 general election. Pennsylvania’s primary is Tuesday, April 23.
The 14th Congressional District includes all of Washington, Greene and Fayette counties, and portions of Westmoreland, Indiana and Somerset counties.
