BUFFALO Man injured:Daniel J. Cortese, 37, of Monessen, was injured just after midnight Saturday when he crashed his motorcycle on Interstate 70 eastbound about two miles west of the Taylorstown exit. State police said he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a right curve. The motorcycle slid 500 feet before hitting a road sign, shearing it off. Police said alcohol also may been a factor in the crash. Toxicology tests will be done on Cortese, who will be charged with failure to drive at a safe speed. Cortese was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh where he was listed in fair condition Sunday.Assisting were firefighters from Claysville and Taylorstown.
CANTON Harassment charge: Theresa Parkinson, 47, of Bentleyville, will be charged with harassment by state police stemming from a confrontation Friday at 1001 Ewing St., Canton. Parkinson is accused of slapping Mary Rood, 70, of Washington, in the face and punching Brian Wagner, 35, of Washington. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
MT. PLEASANT Man arrested: George Sowers, 48, of 446 Westland Road, Mt. Pleasant, was arraigned Saturday stemming from a July 28 incident at his home. Sowers is accused of pointing a gun at his wife, 47-year-old Tammy Sowers. Police said he came home from work intoxicated and was mad because dogs were barking. He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of simple assault, former convict not to own a firearm and harassment. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
