Lincoln St. work to end soon
Road closures and lane restrictions will soon come to an end on Lincoln Street in Washington as work on the Route 19 corridor project comes to an end for 2012.
Work began in April on the $5 million project to rebuild both Lincoln and College streets between East Maiden Street and Highland Avenue, an area designated as the Route 19 corridor. Work on College was not done as planned as the state Department of Transportation waited for Pennsylvania-American Water Co. to do work and decide whether a water line would be moved. Work on the water line is expected to be done by the end of the year.
“The paving on Lincoln is done and the work is 98 percent complete,” said Scott Faieta, assistant construction engineer for PennDOT’s District 12. “There are still a few handicapped ramps to do and we still have some signs to put up and install traffic signals.”
Some lane restrictions on Lincoln will continue for the next two weeks.
Faieta had praise for the work done by the contractor on the project, Donegal Construction.
“We had some tough times but overall things went well,” Faieta said.
Donegal will be back in April to resume work on College. Faieta said some patching was done on College at the intersections with Beau and Chestnut streets.
Work also is scheduled to be done next year on the intersection of the two streets at Highland. Faieta said the apparent low bidder for that phase of the project is Zottola Construction of Valencia.
Another phase of the work will be done in 2014 on Ridge Avenue to Murtland Avenue in the area of the state police barracks.
