Gov. Tom Corbett ordered all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags in the Capitol Complex and at commonwealth facilities throughout the state to fly at half-staff today in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

The Dec. 7, 1941, surprise attack by Japanese fighter planes on Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii, killed 2,403 Americans and wounded another thousand. The onslaught destroyed 20 naval vessels and nearly 200 airplanes, leading the United States to enter World War II against the Axis alliance of Germany, Japan and Italy.

Corbett invited all Pennsylvanians to join in this tribute.
