BLOOMSBURG (AP) — A central Pennsylvania man accused this year in one of the state’s worst cases of animal hoarding said authorities recently found 30 more dogs at his home.
Thomas Ambrosia told the Press Enterprise newspaper in Bloomsburg he wasn’t cited after Monday’s search by state dog-law officers. Instead, Ambrosia said he has 10 days to reduce the number of dogs to 25.
Having more than 25 dogs requires a kennel license.
Ambrosia and his brother, Albert, pleaded guilty in August to animal cruelty after 185 Chihuahuas were seized from their home in Benton, a small town 110 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Most of the dogs found Monday were elderly female Chihuahuas. Thomas Ambrosia said the dogs are well cared for.
Dog-law officers with the state Department of Agriculture have declined to comment on the visit.
