A South Carolina man was recently extradited to Washington County and jailed for allegedly sexually assaulting an underage girl in Midway over a nearly 10-year span.

Garnie James Simmons, 55, of 1133 Fenwick Court, Clover, S.C., is charged with two counts each of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault, court records show. He was arraigned Dec. 11 before District Judge Gary Havelka and jailed on $250,000 bond.

In October 2011, the victim, now in her early 30s, reported to McDonald police that she was molested by Simmons between January 1991 and December 2000 at a residence in Midway, a criminal affidavit states. The victim alleges that Simmons began touching her when she was 10 years old and continued to abuse her until she was a senior in high school, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Thursday before Havelka.
