PITTSBURGH (AP) — The National Weather Service says the first day of winter might be packing a snowy punch for the mountains and higher elevations in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The winter storm watch covers Somerset County — home to the Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Laurel Valley Resort ski areas — as well as higher elevations in neighboring Fayette and Westmoreland counties.

The weather service says six or more inches of snow could fall from late Thursday through Saturday evening. Friday is the first day of winter.

Gusting winds are also possible.
