Cecil Township adopts budget

The 2013 budget for Cecil Township was adopted Friday during a special meeting of the board of supervisors.
There is no tax increase, with the real estate tax rate remaining 16 mills.
The $6.6 million budget remains unchanged from the preliminary budget passed in November.
The board went into executive session Friday to discuss expiring labor contracts with the police and public works unions.
No agreement has been reached, so existing contracts for both the police and public works will expire Monday.
However, township manager Donald Gennuso does not foresee any difficulty getting consensus on both sides for either contract.
Police have yet to take their offer back to their union for a vote. By law, police are unable to strike, but the matter could go to binding arbitration if there is no consensus.
Gennuso expects there will be a public works contract in January. He said they were unable to meet with the union representative until November, which gave them a late start in negotiations.
