CHAMPION – Seven Springs Mountain Resort has received more than a foot of snow due to superstorm Sandy, one of the earliest snows on record. But despite at least 14 inches of snow, officials at the resort about 45 miles southeast of Pittsburgh say the slopes won’t be open to skiers yet.Dick Barron, the resorts ski patrol director, tells WJAC-TV the resort needs to compact the snow that has already fallen and about a foot more before the slopes can open.Still, Barron is encouraged by the early snow saying, “Snow makes us feel like home. Hopefully, this is a sign of a great winter season.”
