An equipment operator at the Sandra Parr gas well in Brooke County, W.Va., was injured Sunday when a 12,000-pound forklift overturned, trapping him. He was in stable condition Sunday evening after being flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

A supervisor from Washington County 911 said the employee of Great Plains Oilfield Rental was conscious and alert when he was freed, a process which took more than an hour. The initial call was made at 1:44 p.m.

Chesapeake Energy owns the well at 1005 Dry Ridge Road, which begins in Donegal Township. The site is a half-mile from Pennsylvania.

Fire departments from West Alexander and Claysville responded. McAdoo Towing of Donegal provided heavy equipment.
