MIDWAY
Midway Borough Council made public its tentative budget for 2013 Monday.
At roughly $375,000, Midway’s preliminary budget is similar to the 2012 spending plan. Borough Secretary Darla Protch said there would be no tax increase for homeowners. The tax rate will remain at 31.25 mills.
Council also voted to renew the police agreement with McDonald. Midway will pay McDonald $52,530 for police coverage in 2013, an increase of 3 percent.
While the motion announcing the preliminary budget helps council move forward, changes can still be made prior to the December deadline.
McDONALD
McDonald Borough Council voted to release its tentative 2013 budget. Council President Marilou Ritchie said council members were pleased that taxes would not be raised in the coming year. Council has until Dec. 31 deadline to make changes to the budget of $965,206.
Also during the meeting, council accepted the resignation of solicitor Jeff Watson and voted to appoint John Hofrichter as his replacement.
Borough resident Elmer Brown was commended for his 30 years of service with the McDonald Area Food Bank. The 92-year-old recently retired as manager for the nonprofit agency.
