HARRISBURG – How did President Barack Obama hang on to Pennsylvania?
His support in Tuesday’s election from most major voting groups eroded since 2008. But Democrats stuck with him, and he received stronger support from Latino voters.
Plus, more voters from the state’s lowest-earning families gravitated to the president.
That’s according to an exit poll conducted for the Associated Press and the television networks.
Obama beat Republican Mitt Romney, 52 percent to 48 percent in Pennsylvania, despite high unemployment, growing national debt and a sluggish economy.
In particular, older voters, whites and Republicans switched to Romney, compared to 2008.
Obama’s stronger support from Latinos helped because they’re a growing part of the Pennsylvania electorate.
Also, his steadfast backing from Democrats was important because they outnumber Republicans four to three in Pennsylvania.
