Washington police said a man who demanded prescription drugs at the Walgreens pharmacy on Jefferson Avenue Wednesday night later was found overdosed on Maiden Street.

Police said a tall, white male entered the drugstore about 8:30 p.m. and, after spending a brief period in the bathroom, walked to the pharmacy counter and passed a note to a pharmacist demanding Oxycontin and Xanax. The man did not show a weapon, and police did not disclose whether he received any drugs.

While the man was speaking to the pharmacist, a teller in the front of the store called 911. When police arrived minutes later, the suspect fled east on Chestnut Street. Officers later found him in the 400 block of Maiden Street, where he had apparently suffered a drug overdose. His identity wasn’t immediately available.

Police said it was the first attempted robbery at the Jefferson Avenue location. Nobody was hurt during the crime.
