Washington NAACP to host Pa. conference

The NAACP Washington branch will host the 78th annual NAACP state conference Friday through Sunday at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel on Racetrack Road, Meadow Lands, The conference will include workshops on education, health, veterans affairs, the economy and social justice.

The following events will be open to the public:

n Business luncheon, noon Friday. James R. McDonald, CEO of Monaloh Basin Engineers will be the business awardee. Speakers will be Massy Paul, president of Monaloh Basin Engineers and JoAnn L. Edwards, executive rirector of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission Tickets are $45.

n Freedom Fund Dinner, 7 p.m. Friday. The speaker will be Tim Stevens, chairman of the Black Political Empowerment Project. The Freedom Fund recognition recipient will be Jordan Trent Miles. Tickets are $60.

n Religious breakfast, 8 a.m. Saturday. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Kevin Cooper, pastor of Mulberry Community Church, Wilkinsburg. Music will be provided by the Men of Friendship Baptist Church. Tickets are $30.

There will also be a special workshop for youth and college members that will be led by leaders from NAACP youth and college chapters throughout the state.
