This chocolate senior doe rabbit, bred by Alexus Grecoe, won best of variety at the American Rabbit Breeders Association convention last month in Kansas.

Alexus Grecoe, 12, a member of the Greene County 4-H Rabbit Club, attended the 89th American Rabbit Breeders Association convention Oct. 27-31 in Wichita, Kan.

Grecoe, daughter of Michael and Bobbie Grecoe of Lone Pine, took 19 rabbits. Her goal was to have a few in the top 10 of their classes but she did a little better than that. She won the best of variety chocolate, best chocolate senior and best gray fur.

Her chocolate senior doe won first place and she won first and ninth in chocolate junior buck; and sixth place chocolate junior doe.

She also won fifth place in senior blue buck; third and ninth place in junior blue buck; fifth, eighth and 11th place junior blue doe; third and eighth place gray junior buck; fourth and fifth place junior gray doe; and second place in steel senior buck.

Grecoe raises Dutch rabbits and currently she has approximately 80 rabbits. The Dutch rabbits come in six varieties – black, blue, chocolate, gray, steel and tort. She has all six.

She is currently ninth in the nation in the American Dutch Rabbit club for youth breeders. She attends several shows throughout the year, mainly in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Grecoe has several mentors throughout the U.S. who have helped her get to where she is today.
