Two people were killed in one of two crashes that occurred early this morning on Interstate 70.

A car traveling east in the westbound lane between the Dallas Pike exit of I-70 and the Pennsylvania state line collided with a tractor-trailer, killing two people. That crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m.

Traffic was diverted off the highway at Claysville to Route 40 after the crash. One lane of traffic is now open in the area while crews work to clear the wreckage, according to the Ohio County (W.Va.) Sheriff’s department.

State police, along with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and local fire departments, are assisting.

Shortly after state police were notified about the fatal crash, they were called for a report of an overturned truck at the north junction in South Strabane Township.

South Strabane Township fire Chief Scott Reese said a load on a truck traveling on I-70 east to Interstate 79 North shifted, causing it to roll.

Traffic remains slow in the area as crews clear that accident.
