The annual Light Up on the Mon event in Greensboro is scheduled for Dec. 1 at the gazebo overlooking the Monongahela River. The event will include refreshments, entertainment and Christmas tree judging.

Entries for the Christmas tree competition must be in place at the gazebo by 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. The contest will begin at 6 p.m.

Trees can be artificial or live and all lights and decorations on them must be able to endure the elements. There is no theme for the tree decorating contest. Participants must have a decorated can or box to collect donations and provide an appropriate extension cord.

Local businesses and non-profit organizations are invited to participate in the annual tree trimming competition.

Winners will be determined by the amount of money collected in participants’ cans or boxes as votes for each tree.

Trees must be anchored to the interior walls of the gazebo to protect it from the weather and must be removed by Jan. 6.

A tree decorated by Greensboro Borough council will be at the center of the gazebo.

Those attending also can bring an ornament for the borough Christmas tree. Everyone is welcome.

The monies collected from the tree decorating competition will be used for the Elm Street Project to support housing, sidewalks, the farmers’ market and future development efforts.

For more information about the contest, contact the borough office at 724-943-3612.
