Woman convicted of robbery pleads to other charges

WAYNESBURG – A homeless woman convicted by a jury last month of robbing an elderly Franklin Township woman in the woman’s home in March pleaded guilty Friday to unrelated burglary charges.
Mary Ann McChesney, 33, pleaded guilty before Judge William Nalitz to burglary, conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.
McChesney and Matthew Gabriel Barth, 29, alos homeless, were charged with entering the home of Richard Hale of 468 Sugar Run Road between March 1 and 2 and stealing a flat screen monitor, software, videotapes and other items.
McChesney was returned to the Greene County Jail, where she is being held on $35,000 bond. She will be sentenced on charged in both cases later.
Last month, McChesney was convicted by a jury of robbing a woman who had let her into her home to use the telephone. McChesney and Barth were charged with robbing Anna Mayhle, 85, on March 3 at Mayhle’s home on Greenhouse Road.
Police said McChesney knocked on Mayhle’s door between and asked to use the telephone, claiming she had run out of gas.
Mayhle allowed McChesney to enter the home. McChesney then pushed Mayhle into a recliner and held her by the wrists in a seated position while Barth entered and ransacked the home in search of money.
The two fled with Mayhle’s purse and about $1,400. Mayhle was not injured.
Barth pleaded guilty to the charges against him in August and was sentenced to 41 months to 10 years in prison.
In other business, Charles M. Walker, 24, of 382 Grant St., Nemacolin, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Farley Toothman to simple assault. A charge of endangering the welfare of a child was withdrawn.
Police said Walker struck a child on the buttocks on Sept. 26, 2011, causing bruises.
Walker was sentenced to 1 year of probation, fined $500 and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
Gerald John Hill, 41, of Harrison, Mich. also was entered into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Hill was arrested Dec. 18 and had a blood-alcohol content level of .204 percent. He also was charge with three summary traffic violations.
