Washington County is purchasing a piece of property at 756 Mounts Road for $60,000 from Bank of America to increase the safety zone around the airport.

The airport plans to demolish the house on the land.

“It’s a short sale, so time is of the essence,” said County Solicitor Lynn DeHaven. “It went through foreclosure, and the bank is the title holder.”

The commissioners Thursday also approved an airport acquisition services agreement with the Washington County Redevelopment Authority for the development and expansion of the airport to increase the size of the runway safety zone.

In another matter related to the airport, the commissioners agreed to advertise for a used, street sweeper-vacuum to be used mainly on the runway, taxiway and aprons. The purchase will be made from capital funds.
