WAYNESBURG – Greene County Bridge No. 8 on Calvert Hill Road in Perry Township was closed Friday after an inspection revealed a problem with the substructure.
The bridge, which spans Shannon Run, was being inspected as part of the regular two-year inspection program, said Jeff Marshall, county chief clerk.
Inspectors found that a beam underneath was in poor condition apparently because of age and wear, he said.
The bridge will remain closed until repairs can be made. The county’s engineer, Widmer Engineering, will complete an inspection and will work with the state Department of Transportation to develop a plan to repair it.
Marshall said he assumes it may take several weeks to prepare a plan to repair the structure. The 49-foot-long bridge was constructed in 1915 and has a 3-ton weight limit. The county hopes to have the bridge open as soon as possible.
