DERRY (AP) — Candy is dandy but liquor — as they say — is quicker.

State police say four students at a western Pennsylvania high school have been charged with sharing and eating vodka-soaked gummy bears in an apparent effort to feel their boozy effect in school.

The Derry Area High School students aren’t being identified because all are charged as juveniles with the illegal purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor.

State police spokesman Trooper Steve Limani says the students were caught with the spiked candy last Thursday while they were hanging out in the cafeteria of the school about 45 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Limani tells WTAE-TV that “it works well for the child because they’re able to conceal the alcohol. It sort of looks like candy do the naked eye.”
