MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – Morgantown is ending a voting by mail experiment.
Media outlets reported that City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday to end Morgantown”s participation in a state vote-by-mail pilot program.
The Secretary of State’s program allows voting by mail in municipal elections.
Opponents cited concerns about potential vote fraud and lack of voter privacy.
Deputy Mayor Wes Nugent said voters who can’t get to polling places have other options to cast ballots.
Morgantown held its first vote-by-mail election in 2011. About 22 percent of the city’s 16,621 registered voters cast ballots.
