The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce is making its final preparations for the 2012 Downtown Waynesburg Christmas Parade to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. The execution of the parade is underwritten by Greene County Tourism.
Nearly 100 entries representing schools, churches, civic organizations and businesses from all over the county are scheduled to appear.
Miss Rain Day 2012 Kendall Lewis and the chamber’s 2012 Distinguished Service Award winners Jeff McCracken, Karen Behm (representing the late Joe Behm and Jan Caldwell) and director of the Corner Cupboard Food Bank, will have the honor of leading the parade down High Street as its grand marshals.
A special grand marshal, Elissa McCracken, Miss Ohio 2012 and Miss America contestant, will open the parade by singing the National Anthem. She was also Miss Rain Day in 2008.
Trophies will be awarded to the Judges Choice as well as the top three floats and three honorable mentions. Judging will take place during the line up in the staging area. And of course Santa and Mrs. Claus will be the guests of honor at the end of the parade.
Also, once again, WCYJ Television from Waynesburg University will be videotaping the parade for a later broadcast on local stations. WCYJ is a student operated television station under the direction of Bill Molzon.
Residents living around the university and parks are reminded that line-up will begin in that area at noon on parade day. The United Methodist Church parking lot, Hook Law Office parking lot and both Baptist Church parking lots will be in use for line up and parking will not be available.
Several streets will be blocked off to traffic not associated with the parade starting at 2 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m. Route 19 South traffic and High Street traffic from McCracken’s Pharmacy to the First Baptist Church will also be detoured beginning at 2 p.m. Traffic in the area will be detoured using West and Franklin streets.
