Morgantown man dies in Interstate 79 wreck

WAYNESBURG – A 22-year-old Morgantown, W.Va., man, who state police said had been using opiates, died in a single-vehicle crash Monday night in the southbound lanes of Interstate 79, about two miles north of Waynesburg.
Daniel A. Deleon died at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., where he was flown by medical helicopter following the 8 p.m. crash. Deleon tested positive for opiate use, police said.
Police said Deleon was driving erratically and at a high speed when his 1999 Isuzu Rodeo ran off the highway into the grass median and rolled. Deleon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle through the driver’s side window, police said.
The vehicle came to rest in the right southbound lane.
The crash closed the southbound lanes of the highway for about an hour. The Waynesburg-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company and EMS Southwest assisted at the scene.
