The state Department of Transportation will hold a public plans display from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the South Strabane Township building, 550 Washington Road, to review the preliminary road design plans for the next phase of the improvement project on Interstate 70 between Beau Street and the Interstate 79 south junction. The meeting will be in an open house format with PennDOT officials and project team members available to explain the project and receive nput.

This is the second phase of PennDOT’s plan to provide three lanes of traffic in each direction along I-70 between the I-79 north and south junctions.

The general scope of this project involves widening of I-70 from two lanes to three lanes in each direction and acceleration/deceleration length improvements at the eastern ramps at the Beau Street interchange. The Beau Street interchange will remain as it currently exists.

The project limits for eastbound I-70 are from approximately 300 feet east of the Route 136 Beau Street bridge that spans I-70 to a point approximately 400 feet east of the exit ramp to southbound I-79 within the south junction interchange. For the westbound lanes, the same western limit will exist but the easternmost limit will tie into the new ramp currently being installed with the south junction interchange project. The Department has retained the firm of Gannett Fleming Inc. to conduct the engineering design.
