Free doo-wop show to be held at center in Greensboro
GREENSBORO – Singer and musician Carl Donley will perform a special free concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at Mon View Roller Rink and Community Center in Greensboro.
Donley, a Greene County native who currently lives in Bentleyville, will perform doo-wop and easy listening songs from the 1950s, ’60s and early ’70s. He is the last surviving member of the oldies group Del-Rayes, which formed in 1969 in Chicago. The group recorded cover songs and toured as an opening act before breaking up in the late 1970s, when Donley returned to Southwestern Pennsylvania. Donley has continued to perform throughout the region, often playing state theatres.
“I’ve been wanting to do something for my home county for a long time,” Donley said about performing in Greensboro, adding that he is interested in holding more free concerts in Greene and Washington counties.
During the concert’s intermission, food can be purchased from the roller rink’s kitchen. No skating will be permitted during the concert.
