3 plead guilty in pot case, face probation

WAYNESBURG – Three people who were found to be growing marijuana on property behind a house on Mt. Morris Road this summer pleaded guilty Wednesday before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman.
Gary M. Wallace, 56, Kimberly Sue Gibson, 47, and John M. Perry, 59, all of 2686 Mt. Morris Road, Waynesburg, pleaded guilty to charges including manufacturing a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Each was sentenced to three years of probation, fined $500 and ordered to perform 125 hours of community service.
State police had gone to their house in Franklin Township Aug. 22 to serve an arrest warrant on another person they had believed was staying there.
A trooper who went to the rear of the house heard movement in the bushes and saw a well-worn path leading from the house to a wooded area, police said.
Following the path, the trooper encountered Wallace near growing marijuana plants.
Police said Wallace told the trooper he was looking for firewood and drinking beer. He took the trooper to a campsite where a marijuana pipe was found that Wallace said was his.
Police found numerous white buckets around the marijuana plants apparently used to water the plants. The same type of buckets were found on the porch of the house and in the garage.
Police obtained a warrant and searched the home. They found a room on a second floor contained equipment to grow marijuana
The three were charged with possession seven marijuana plants, 2 ounces of processed marijuana and equipment used for growing marijuana.
In other cases before the court, Brittany Nicole Hager, 27, of 213 Sugar Run Road, Waynesburg, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and escape.
Hager was arrested May 12 after becoming involved in a fight with another woman at 146 W. Franklin St., Waynesburg.
She removed her handcuffs and escaped from the back seat of the police car by climbing through a window in the cage separating the front and back seats.
Hager was sentenced to 35 days to 23 1/2 months in jail, fined $300 and ordered to perform 90 hours of community service.
Floyd Edward Huff, 23, of 773 Kirby Road, Waynesburg, pleaded guilty to retail theft. Huff stole two items valued at $199 May 21 from the Walmart store in Franklin Township.
Huff will be sentenced following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
