South Strabane Township police are working with North Strabane Township police to determine if a daylight burglary at a home Tuesday is related to a burglary and attempted burglary on Monday in the neighboring community.
Police were called to the 900 block of Davis School Road after the residents returned home about 10 p.m. to discover muddy footprints in the master bedroom next to a dresser with some items disturbed.
There was no sign of forced entry, but one of the doors was unlocked, police said. One resident told police she had been gone since about 11 a.m. The other returned home about 3 p.m.
“We believe it happened between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.,” said township police Detective John Bruner.
Stolen from the home was prescription medication, some costume jewelry, about $50 in coins, a strong box, checks and a credit card.
The report comes a day after North Strabane police were called to investigate a break-in on Christy Road and an attempted burglary on Linden Road.
North Strabane police Lt. Dan Levi said the burglar was able to break into a garage at the home on Christy but was likely scared away by an alarm when entering the house. The resident on Linden told police that she was home when she heard someone trying to enter the front door. The would-be burglary, described as a white man dressed all in black, was trying to force his way into a basement door when she yelled out the window and asked what he was doing. He didn’t respond but instead left on foot in the direction of Wilson Road.
Bruner believes the same may be happening in South Strabane.
“People are likely going around seeing if people are home,” Bruner said. “We will probably be seeing more clusters of this type of crime.”
“Neighbors should keep alert and call 911 if they see anything suspicious,” he added.
Bruner said drug problems often are behind this type of crime.
Anyone who might have seen suspicious activity on Davis School Road is asked to call police at 724-225-8111.
