A workshop meeting to forge a working relationship between Cecil Township officials and Range Resources has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Cecil manager Donald Gennuso confirmed that the meeting had been rescheduled after both sides were able to find a suitable time when all the supervisors could attend. Genusso said he hoped the meeting would be one where everyone would benefit.

“I hope it stays on course and remains a positive discussion on the Marcellus Shale,” he said.

Range Resources canceled its Nov. 8 meeting with the township when state Rep. Jesse White, D-Cecil, posted information about the meeting on his Facebook page and invited more than 200 people to attend, which Range feared would disrupt the discussion. On Friday, White posted the day and time of the new meeting on his Facebook page, urging interested residents to attend but adding he was not advocating any type of disturbance.

Gennuso said the board has never limited public comment but noted the township could not force representatives of the natural gas drilling company to speak with the public.

Gennuso said there are no plans to make any decisions at the meeting.

Currently, there are 10 gas wells in the township and an impoundment pond. When Range had first approached the board in 2008, it indicated its plans were to be operating in Cecil in 2013.

“This seems to be right on target with what Range first told them,” Gennuso said.

A Range spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the meeting.
