The Washington County Redevelopment Authority and county commissioners will be receiving a “Homegrown PA Award” next week at the PNC Housing Heroes awards presentation during the Pennsylvania’s Homes within Reach conference in Harrisburg.

The redevelopment authority is being recognized Tuesday for its Accessible Homebuyer Assistance program, a collaboration with Accessible Dreams, an affiliate of Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living. The mission of Accessible Dreams is to assist people who have disabilities and teach skills necessary for independent living.

The Accessible Homebuyers Assistance program goal is to provide newly-constructed homes to eligible, low-income buyers. Affordable, barrier-free homes constructed through the program are designed with open floor plans.

The Liadis family of Canonsburg purchased the first home constructed under the program through taxpayer funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Washington County project is one of just four that will receive an award.
