Several Washington County police departments will receive money through the Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership program.

Beallsville will get $350 to purchase one vest, Chartiers Township will get $4,125 for 11 vests, North Strabane Township will receive $800 for two vests, South Strabane Township is receiving $2,805 for six vests and West Brownsville will get $1,750 for five vests.

The Chartiers Township Department of Public Works will pick up leaves Oct. 26, Nov. 2, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16. Leaves must be placed curbside in biodegradable bags by 7 a.m. on pickup days. No trash, vines, tree branches, brush clippings or other debris can be placed in the bags. Biodegradable bags can be picked at the municipal building. The first five are free, and the cost is 50 cents per bag thereafter. For more information, call 724-745-3415.

Maintenance activities will be done Sunday through Friday nights in the Fort Pitt Tunnel on the Parkway West (Interstate 376) in Pittsburgh.

Single-lane traffic will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. as needed each night in both directions. Crews are performing maintenance on the tunnel lighting system. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.
