2 attorneys to be honored for pro bono legal services

Attorneys Rebecca A. Bowman and David E. Rundquist Jr. are the 2012 recipients of the Washington County Bar Association’s inaugural “Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year” award. The attorneys, who are WCBA members, were selected by the bar association’s Pro Bono and Lawyer Referral Services Committee for their outstanding contributions of legal services through organized pro bono programs to the indigent of Washington County. The awards will be presented Monday at the bar association’s annual Pro Bono Recognition and Celebration luncheon. The last week in October has been proclaimed “Pro Bono Week” by Governor Tom Corbett and the Pennsylvania General Assembly to highlight “the good work Pennsylvania attorneys do for the neediest among us” and the positive difference lawyers make in their communities.Bowman’s pro bono activities include serving as a referral panelist for the bar association’s legal aid conflict and modest means programs as well as general counsel for Family Promise, a network for homeless families; general and adoption counsel for the Pregnancy Resource Center of the South Hills; real estate counsel for the Washington County Habitat for Humanity; and on the referral panel for Southwestern Pennsylvania Christian Legal Aid. She received a Pro Bono Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 2007.Rundquist has provided more than 50 hours of pro bono assistance over the past two years to residents of the Washington City Mission through its legal clinic. In addition, he serves as a referral panelist for the Washington County Bar Association’s legal aid conflict and modest means programs. He was a judicial law clerk for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania from 1988-1999, practiced with the firm of Brant and Associates in Canonsburg through 2009 and is currently a sole practitioner. Other attorneys who will receive recognition at the luncheon for participating in the bar association’s organized pro bono programs are Belinda Attwood, Kenneth Baker, Mary Bates, Timothy Berggren, William Bishop, Blane Black, Keith Campbell, Michele Dawson, Keith Emerick, Colin Fitch, Marilyn Gilman, Brian Gorman, Dawn Haber, Carol Hanna, MariAnn Hathaway, Christopher Hega, James Jeffries, Josephine Johnson, Eugene Julian, William Knestrick, Thomas Kostolansky, Charles Kurowski, Daniel Long, Thomas Lonich, Leigh Lyons, Matthew Madvay, Stephen Marriner, Cindy Phillips, John Puskar, Tamora Reese, Stephanie Ringbloom, Jessica Roberts, William Speakman and Stephen Taczak.
