A Union Township teen was jailed Wednesday after police linked him to a burglary based on the tread pattern of his shoes. Zachary Allen, 19, of 105 Gilmore St., was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, acquisition of drugs by subterfuge and possession of a controlled substance, court records show. According to Southwest Regional police, Allen was summoned to the police station to be questioned about the theft of prescription pills reported at his residence Tuesday. During the interview, an officer observed Allen’s shoes and noticed the tread pattern appeared to match that of a footprint lifted from the scene of a Sept. 23 burglary at 123 Gilmore St., Union Township. After police determined the teen’s shoes matched the footprint, Allen confessed to committing both crimes. Allen was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge James Ellis and remanded to the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
