University to host jazz concert

WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg University will host the Jazz and Percussion Ensembles Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center. The event is hosted by the department of fine arts and the music program. Admission is free, and the public is invited. The Waynesburg University jazz ensembles, both vocal and instrumental, along with their colleagues in the percussion cnsemble, combine to perform a night of jazz and percussion standards. The repertoire presented by the jazz ensembles will cover music composed by jazz great Duke Ellington, as well as Disney favorites with a jazz slant. The percussion ensemble will present music for mallets, hand percussion, drums and mixed instrumentation. These concerts present opportunities for music students to explore techniques connected to jazz music as well as delving into many areas of global percussive arts. The concert will feature music from the jazz combo, the vocal jazz esnemble, the jazz trio and the percussion ensemble. The ensembles are made up of 20 Waynesburg University students.
