GRAYSVILLE – West Greene School Board took action regarding several personnel matters Thursday that included extending the contracts of the district’s three principals but not the contract of its director of facilities. The board approved a three-year Act 93 administrative compensation plan for Scott Sakai, middle-senior high school principal; Zachary Dillow, assistant middle-senior high principal; and Don Painter, elementary principal. The agreement extends from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2015. Under the agreement, each principal will receive a three-percent increase in salary a year. Their current salaries are Sakai, $76,490; Dillow, $64,890; and Painter, $74,283. The board voted 5-4 not to extend the contract of Mike Pierson, the district’s director of facilities. Pierson has worked in the position for about a year and a half. At an earlier meeting, the board had voted to extend his employment probation period, which apparently expired at the end of this month. Pierson left the meeting after talking with several board members following the board’s executive session and was not present when the motion was considered. Superintendent Thelma Szarell declined to comment on the matter. Voting in favor of terminating the contract were Greta Mooney, Shelia Simms, Joe Coss, Tom Coss and James Handley; voting against the motion were Kelly Loughman, Butch Cassiday, Mike Pikula and Regina MacDowell. The board then voted to advertise the position. It was announced the board will hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 to open bids on renovations to the middle-senior high school auditorium. The project will include replacing the seats and the stage curtains and repairing the floor. The district hopes to start the work at the beginning of the year, after the holiday, when the auditorium will not be in use. The board also has discussed air-conditioning the auditorium as part of the project. The board approved the resignation of Lisa Kravits as the drama club sponsor and voted to post the position. It also voted to reinstate the engineering club and voted to post the sponsor’s position. The board approved Scott Blair, Allen Hughes, Kevin Jones, Gary Whyte and Patrick Morris as unpaid, volunteer wrestling coaches. It also approved the following unpaid volunteer coaches: Katie Horr, varsity girls basketball; Richard Kerch, varsity boys basketball; Ron Todd, seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball; and Justin Ziefel, rifle team.
