One person died Saturday afternoon after the car he was a passenger in collided with another vehicle on Route 980 in Cecil Township. Dennis W. Cook, 64, of Stewart Road, McDonald, was pronounced dead of multiple injuries at 3:20 p.m. by Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. The accident occurred at 2:13 p.m. near the intersection with Weavertown Lane. According to Warco, Cook was in a southbound vehicle when the driver lost control because of slippery road conditions and struck an approaching vehicle that was in the northbound lane. Three people in the vehicle Cook was riding in and the operator of the second vehicle all were taken to area hospitals. Their names and conditions were not released by Cecil Township police, who said they are investigating the accident. The accident shut down portions of Route 980 for several hours and motorists were advised by 911 to avoid the area. Cecil Township No. 3 Fire Department and Southbridge Ambulance Service assisted at the scene of the crash.
