A West Virginia man was injured when his vehicle crashed into a utility pole and then hit a house about 7 a.m. Monday on Route 519 near Sabo Road, Mt. Pleasant police said. Zach Starr, 20, of Weirton, was driving south on Route 519 when his vehicle went off the road, clipped the pole and then struck the front wall of the house, said police Chief Lou McQuillan. Starr, who was on his way to work, told ambulance personnel that he believes he fell asleep at the wheel. McQuillan does not believe speed was a factor. The home was checked by a representative of the township’s engineering firm, who determined the residence was still habitable. The vehicle also hit the gas meter and damaged the electrical panel of the home. Route 519 was closed for about 2 1/2 hours while telephone and cable lines were removed from the road and the pole reset. Starr was taken to Canonsburg General Hospital for treatment.
