Washington woman pleads guilty in Jan. crash in S. Franklin

A Washington woman received jail time after recently pleading guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol following a one-vehicle crash Jan. 12 on Park Avenue (Route 18) in South Franklin Township in which she and two passengers were injured.Mary Jo Petrie, 36, of 20 Belair Drive, pleaded guilty Oct. 10 before Judge Katherine Emery to a first offense of DUI and endangering the welfare of children, court records show. Petrie was sentenced to 29 months of probation with the first 3 months in jail followed by 3 months of electronic home monitoring. She also received a one-year driver’s license suspension and a $1,000 fine.According to police, Petrie and Craig Hutchison Jr., 28, of Prosperity, along with Petrie’s 7-year-old son, were ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over several times after she crashed along Park Avenue near the driveway of the Lone Pine Country Club storage building about 3:30 p.m. Jan. 12. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, including the boy, police said.Witnesses reported seeing Petrie’s car traveling south on Park Avenue just before leaving the road, hitting an embankment and becoming airborne twice before striking a tree.Petrie and Hutchison were taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Petrie’s blood-alcohol content was determined to be 0.211 percent, court records show.
