Absentee ballots from Washington County voters, except for those coming from military or overseas voters, are due at the Washington County elections office at 5 p.m. Friday. An Allegheny County judge’s ruling extending the deadline across the board applies to absentee voters from Allegheny County only.An attorney for the Allegheny County election board, in arguing for the extension, cited the possibility Allegheny County absentee voters on the East Coast would be hampered in mailing in their votes from that area because delivery has been disrupted by Tropical Storm Sandy.Washington County Commissioner Harlan Shober, a member of the election board said that on Tuesday, “A lot of the utility workers were lined up to get absentee ballots before they headed east. Maybe 10 at a time came in.”They did their voting because they were shipping out for Election Day.” Shober said he’s in favor of early voting, a practice Pennsylvania does not have.
