Fredericktown man found guilty of DUI

WAYNESBURG – A Fredericktown man was found guilty Wednesday by a Greene County Court jury of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.Phillip L. Deems, 33, of 37 Clark St., was arrested March 17 after he wrecked his vehicle on Fourth Avenue in Crucible. Police said Deems had slurred speech and was unable to balance himself. He also failed a field sobriety test.After his arrest, while conducting a search, police found a small bag of marijuana in his pocket. Blood tests indicated a blood-alcohol content of 0.234 percent and evidence of marijuana use.Deems was found guilty of charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a controlled substance as well as a charge of DUI, incapable of safe driving.The trial was before Judge Farley Toothman. Deems, who has a previous DUI offense, will be sentenced following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
