RICES LANDING – Firefighters responded to a structure fire Wednesday morning at 145 Rices Landing Road that is believed to have started inside a chimney at the two-story residence. The home belongs to Annette Janco Roberts and serves as the location for Poochie Beautique Dog Grooming.According to Rices Landing Volunteer Fire Department Captain Tom Teegarden, another resident in the home saw fire coming out from around the furnace and into the wall.”I was told the fire was coming out of the base of the chimney on the outside wall and smoke was coming out of the eaves before I got here,” Teegarden said. “We think the fire started in the chimney and worked its way into the walls.”Firemen extinguished the fire by gaining access to the roof enabling them to flush water down the chimney and flood the furnace from above, Teegarden said.Firefighters from Jefferson and Waynesburg Volunteer Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
