Two Washington County district judges and one senior district judge were recently recertified for service after completing continuing legal education coursework. District Judges Valarie Constanzo of Cecil Township and Curtis Thompson of Bentleyville and Senior District Judge Jay Dutton attended the week-long course conducted by the Minor Judiciary Education Board.
The program is designed to ensure that district judges remain current in a variety of legal topics and management techniques needed to fairly adjudicate cases and effectively supervise a district court office.
Cecil Township Planning Commission is seeking applicants to join the volunteer board.
The planning commission serves as a recommending body to the board of supervisors in all aspects of community development. The meetings are held the third Thursday of every month beginning at 7 p.m.

The express E-ZPass lanes at the Mainline Toll Plaza of the Mon-Fayette Expressway in Fayette County will be closed in both directions on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The toll plaza is located between Exit 18 (Searights Road) and Exit 22 (Redstone Way) on the Uniontown to Brownsville portion. The closure is needed to perform maintenance work on the electronic toll equipment. Work is weather dependent.
Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the closure and direct vehicles to the right of the express lanes, where conventional lanes will be designated as E-ZPass only or cash only. Motorist should be aware that the designated E-ZPass lanes have a speed limit of 5 mph.
Union Township will have fall leaf pickup on the following Mondays: Oct. 22, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5.
Residents should place leaves at the curb, separate from trash, in biodegradeable bags.
