Foundation offers scholarships

WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation is once again offering multiple scholarships and tuition assistance awards for Greene County residents pursuing health care degrees. Typically, the foundation awards in excess of $50,000 annually to college and college-bound students.

The available awards this year are as follows:

• Healthcare Scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to five high school students graduating this spring and pursuing a health care major. One student from each of the five local school districts will be awarded this scholarship. Applications can be obtained in the students’ respective guidance counselor’s office.

• Nursing Tuition Assistance Awards of $5,000 will be awarded to two nursing students enrolled in an accredited nursing program.

• Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Awards of $500 per credit hour will be awarded to two individuals pursuing a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license.

• A Medical Student Tuition Assistance Award of $25,000 will be awarded to an individual who has completed at least one year of medical school. This award is renewable on an annual basis as long as the student remains in good standing throughout his or her medical training and could reach as much as $150,000.

All tuition assistance awards are sponsored by the Auxiliary of Southwest Regional Medical Center and carry stipulations regarding a Greene County residence. Applications for all tuition assistance awards may be obtained on the foundation’s website www.GCMHFoundation.org. The deadline for all awards is May 3.

The GCMH Foundation is the largest nonprofit 501c3 philanthropic organization headquartered in Greene County, with assets exceeding $12 million. Its mission is to provide funding for health care-related programs to benefit Greene County residents. It operates the Foundation for Wellness facility located on the first floor of the Southwest Regional Medical Center and provides funding for a variety of programs throughout the county.

Typically, donations made to the foundation are tax deductible. Anyone who has a special concern dealing with any health-related issues in Greene County and who would like to make a donation or discuss the creation of a program in honor or memory of a loved one, can call the foundation office at 724-852-2060.
