FORT KNOX, Ky. – The Pentagon says an Army civilian employee has died following a shooting incident in a parking lot at Fort Knox in Kentucky.

Military officials said in a news release late Wednesday that the victim was an employee of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. The shooting occurred outside the command. He was transported to the Ireland Army Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Chris Grey, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Command, said authorities “are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence.”

The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of family. Police were seeking to speak with a person of interest in the case.

Post spokesman Kyle Hodges said late Wednesday that the post remained on a heightened security alert. The FBI is assisting in the investigation, a spokeswoman said.
