CARMICHAELS – Flenniken Public Library is celebrating National Library Week April 14-20 with the Pennsylvania Library Association’s PA Forward initiative, a set of skills that libraries promote and support.
During National Library Week, the library will highlight some of these skill sets, including:
•Health literacy – A program about the new community garden will be presented at 6 p.m. April 15 by Ruth Enci, who will talk about how the program works, what is planted in the garden, who can participate and how you can volunteer. Funding has been provided by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greene County.
•Basic literacy – Preschool story hour is 11 a.m. April 16 and toddler time is 11 a.m April 19. Check out the children’s ebook database, Tumblebooks, at www.flenniken.org.
•Civic & social literacy – John Hart, fire chief of East Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company, will present a program about department’s SCUBA and swift water rescue work at 6 p.m. April 16.
•Information literacy – Digital devices day is April 17. Bring in your ebook reader, tablet or other electronic device for individual help from our staff. The library recently received a grant from the Chevron Community Fund to purchase some of these.
•Financial literacy – Take a tour of the personal finance tools available at www.flenniken.org. Library staff members are always happy to help you navigate the site to find the information you need.
In celebration of National Library Week, Flenniken Library is forgiving fines on overdue materials returned between April 14-20. Dig out those overdue items and cash in! If you have outstanding fines on your library account, come in and talk to the library staff. We are ‘making deals’ during National Library Week. This offer is good for one week only.
The library also will have cookies, coffee, and lemonade on hand for everyone who comes in to use the library. Come and celebrate books, reading, the sharing of ideas, and free access to information, during National Library Week at the Flenniken Public Library.
The library is always open at www.flenniken.org.
Library hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
