PITTSBURGH – A Western Pennsylvania jury has acquitted a man in a shooting death at a Pittsburgh housing complex almost a year ago.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says the Allegheny County panel found 21-year-old Bernard Carter of Rankin not guilty Monday of homicide and reckless endangerment.
Prosecutors were seeking a first-degree murder conviction in the May 25 death of 33-year-old William Harrington in the Hawkins Village development.
Police alleged in a criminal complaint that a witness had told investigators that Carter shot Harrington as he left an apartment.
Defense attorney James Wymard told the paper that he was pleased with the verdict. Mike Manko, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, declined comment.
