PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Police said a newborn baby found in a north Philadelphia backyard is in stable condition at a hospital, and the child’s mother has also been hospitalized.

A police spokeswoman said the infant was found after a woman reported hearing cries in the rear of the building at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

The child was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital and listed in stable condition.

Police said the mother had been located and was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was also listed in stable condition.

The police special investigation unit will be handling the investigation of the case.
