A severe thunderstorm Tuesday night has left the City of Washington’s telephone system down, with residents unable to contact any departments.

Councilman Matt Staniszewski has developed a temporary solution until the phone system is restored by switching over one of the city’s analog fax lines to allow incoming telephone calls. The phone line is available at 724-223-4229.

Staniszewski reminded residents to call only if it is absolutely necessary because there is only one line available. In the event of an emergency, residents should dial 911.

Staff is currently working to fix the digital phone system. Because city equipment is damaged, all communications, both voice and Internet, have been disrupted.
