HUNTINGDON (AP) — A central Pennsylvania man is jailed on charges he attacked police who tried to speak with him about the remains of his daughter-in-law, who has been missing since 1999.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 65-year-old Kenneth Leighty, who is charged with assaulting an officer at his home in Altoona on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Huntingdon County district attorney and state police say crews are searching a wooded area near Leighty’s hunting camp in Warriors Mark Township for the body of Sherry Jean Leighty.

She was 21 when she was last seen in October 1999, when Kenneth Leighty told police he took the woman to work then went to work himself. Kenneth Leighty isn’t charged in the woman’s disappearance, but police say in court papers that work records show Kenneth Leighty was off work at the time.
